Soprano Kay Paschal made her critically-acclaimed European debut as Anna Maurrant in the Berlin premiere of Weill’s Street Scene at Theater des Westens, followed by Eva in Die Meistersinger at Volkstheâter Rostock, Germany. Her career has taken her to the opera houses of Atlanta, Baltimore, Houston, Washington, D.C., Denver, St. Louis, Charlotte, Central City, Tulsa, Hartford, Kansas City, Baton Rouge, Sacramento, Oklahoma City, Knoxville, Little Rock, and Jackson. Her varied repertoire includes major roles: Countess, Donna Anna, Butterfly, Mimi, Nedda, Rosalinda, Adina, Magnolia, Marian the Librarian, and even Kathy in the Student Prince! Her concert appeareances have included performances with the symphony orchestras of Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Pittsburgh, Palm Beach, San Diego, and Knoxville.
Ms. Paschal was featured in the special Easter Saint Paul Sunday Morning NPR broadcast of Poulenc’s Gloria with the Kansas City Philharmonic and also won the prestigious National Institute of Music Theatre Award given by Beverly Sills and Hal Prince at the Kennedy Center. She served as the assistant to the artistic director and was a stage director and principal voice teacher at Opera in the Ozarks. She was the stage director for a new production of Madama Butterfly that opened Springfield Regional Opera season. She was acting coach for Rising Star Vocal Works, Indiana, and was a member of the illustrious voice faculty of La Musica Lirica, Novafeltria, Italy, and Festival of International Opera in Brazil.
Before joining the faculty of Georgia State University, she directed Carmen as their interim Director of Opera. Currently, a lecturer of voice at GSU, she is also the Coordinator of Harrower Summer Opera Workshop’s Studio program. At the University of Tennessee’s illustrious Clarence Brown Theater, she taught voice and acting to their Master of Fine Arts degree students. Her vocal students from universities and programs – and her private studio – continue to sing professionally and win competitions throughout the United States and around the world.
