FIO voice faculty and invited guest artists give masterclasses to participants throughout the program. Every FIO participant will have the opportunity to sing in a masterclass.

Eva Mei

Soprano Eva Mei was born in Fabriano and studied at the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Florence. In 1990, she won the Caterina-Cavalieri Prize at the Mozart Competition in Vienna for her interpretation of Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail). She debuted the role at the Vienna Staatsoper soon after. Mei is best-known as an interpreter of bel canto and Verdi repertoire. Among Mei’s most well-known roles are Alice Ford (Falstaff), Norina (Don Pasquale), Violetta (La Traviata), Alcina, Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), and Contessa Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro).

Fiorenza Cossotto

Mezzo-soprano Fiorenza Cossotto was born in Crescentino, Italy and made her operatic debut in the world premiere of Dialogue of the Carmelites (1957). She is best-known for her singing both mezzo-soprano and contralto roles in bel canto and Verdi repertoire. Among her roles are Azucena (Il trovatore), Favorita, Amneris (Aida), Eboli (Don Carlos), Preziosilla (La forsza del destino), Maddalena, Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera), Laura (La Gioconda), Carmen, Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), and Urbain (Les Huguenots).
